Notes: AU - Set in the English countryside just before the war against Napoleon.  Bitchy heiresses, arrogant suitors, sexy servants, betrayal, love, death, and humor.  Pairings of all kinds appear and characters from many animes will be making appearances.  There will of course be some OOCness, but that is expected with an AU fic. R/R appreciated.

Chapter 2

Ryo tucked his head close to White Blaze’s neck as his ride leapt the stream.  Quickly he checked to see if Dorothy was still within sight.  Keeping his distance, Ryo followed as she galloped down the familiar trail.  They should reach the pond where she liked to practice her fencing soon.

All of the marriage business must be getting to her, Ryo thought.  This is the third time we’ve been here since the guests started arriving last week.  Lord Treize would not be pleased at Dorothy’s actions this time.  This holiday was to find her a husband and she wasn’t even there.

Sure enough, as he galloped into the clearing, he could see the demon horse drinking from the pond.  Dorothy strode to the hollowed out tree where she kept her practice foil.  Ryo tended to his and Dorothy’s horses as she began her practice routine.

It was too bad Lord Treize dismissed her fencing teacher.  Dorothy really missed the daily training sessions.  Lady Une had thought it pointless to keep him on when he no longer had anything to teach her daughter.  The poor man hadn’t stood a chance against Dorothy’s passion and creativity.  She had attempted to continue the daily sessions with her brother, but he wasn’t a challenge and Quatre soon grew tired of the continued losses.  Occasionally, Lord Treize would duel with her.  He was the only person who could defeat her.

She even went so far as to try and teach him, the “stable boy.”  She gave up after a couple of weeks, sick of his ineptitude.  Personally, he thought he had done pretty damn well.  He’d almost disarmed her once.  He was competent, but he just couldn’t get comfortable with the light flimsy weapon.  Maybe if she had given him a sword with more weight, like the ones hanging in the front hall, he could have been more effective.

The horses taken care of, Ryo settled against a tree next to the pond.  His stomach rumbled reminding him he hadn’t had a chance to eat before rushing after Dorothy.  It was going to be a long day.
